Morita is Spanish for ‘little mulberry.’ Moritas are made from very small jalapenos and serranos, which are left to ripen and dry on the plant and then smoked. Hotter and sweeter than the mora chile.
Rarer than the mora chile, the smoky tones of the morita chile recalls chipotles and sweet red peppers. Grind morita chile into tacos and quesadillas fillings, or use it to heat up and flavor veggie chile and chili con carne.
