Pure Kashmiri saffron is recognizable by its deep red color, flattened stamens and seductive, earthy smell.
While Kashmir has been counted as one of the finest saffron terroirs since ancient times, it is one of the most elusive- and adulterated. This saffron is a good example of why the spice is reputed for its calming effects.
Our pure Kashmiri saffron is best infused before use. Crush the saffron threads roughly in a cup and let steep for several minutes in a few tablespoons of hot water or broth before adding to your recipes. The short infusion will draw out the flavor and color of this unique saffron. Most recipes generally call for ¼ gram of saffron.
This saffron is excellent in long-simmered dishes like tajines, stews, and curries. We use Kashmiri saffron in our Imperial Kashmiri Curry blend. Kashmiri saffron is also great for rice, fish and meat dishes. It will add a festive touch to any dish.
