French shallots are part of the onion family. They’re used extensively in French, as well as in numerous Asian cuisines, especially in Thailand and Indonesia. When freeze dried, they also maintain their sweet taste and intense fragrance.
Freeze dried French shallots can be used as packaged, or ground in sauces, dips or even to “punch up” salad dressings, stocks or soups. Fantastic when added to spice rubs for grilled or braised meats or poultry. Because they’re freeze dried, these shallots can easily be rehydrated, just let them soak for a few minutes in stock or wine before using.
For a delicious, crispy garnish on a salad, fried rice or sautéed noodles, just add some shallots directly from the can!
