Cultivated 3000 meters above the tiny village of Nine Dragons, China. This excellent pepper is reputed to have once been reserved exclusively for the Chinese Emperor’s table.
Our Imperial Red Sichuan Pepper is harvested under exceptional conditions. Grown in tiny fields at the bottom of a deep, narrow gorge in the province of Sichuan, these plantations are irrigated by glacial melts that descend from the Tibetan plateau. In Sichuan, this pepper is often paired with hot chiles. One seed is often enough to numb one’s tongue. To be used in moderation, even for heat lovers. As our grower proudly declares, “it even numbs your lips.”
