Coroso (or corozo) is a palm tree nut found mainly in Oaxaca. Its taste is reminiscent of coconut, and its texture is not unlike Brazil nuts.
In Oaxaca, it’s traditionally used to make tostadas de corozo, and the Zapotecs grind the corozo into powder with rosita de cocoa and sapote and then add it to cocoa-based beverages.
These nuts have a high fat content, so they go rancid quickly; we suggest keeping them in the refrigerator to maintain their freshness.
